Freiberg

After a short stay in Leipzig Petrus Mosellanus reached Freiberg / Saxony on 6.1.1514 where humanist Rhagius Aesticampianus acted as rector of the local Latin School. In 1515 the Freiburg Mayor Ulrich Rülein von Calw had founded a new municipal Latin School where Petrus Mosellanus started as the very first teacher of Latin. Summoned by Duke George of Saxony, but nonetheless disappointed by de resistance of the city council of Freiberg and representatives of the former Trivial School, Mosellanus left Freiberg and proceeded to Leipzig.

His modern methods of teaching were quite popular at the time and can still be found in the chronicle of Freiberg: the young students enthousiastically came flocking in and even older and highly educated personalities in great numbers attended his lessons.
